Cadets Participate in Bivouac

April 28, 2023

On Friday, April 28th, approximately 20 cadets and seven senior members from TX-435 attended a bivouac at the San Marcos River Retreat in San Marcos, Texas. The bivouac is an overnight camping experience chaperoned by CAP senior members. The purposes are to provide opportunities for cadets to complete tasks for Ground Team Member 3 (GTM3), teach survival skills, provide leadership opportunities for upper level cadets, and increase camaraderie within the cadet program.

The cadets and seniors were fortunate to sleep indoors on Friday as the area experienced heavy rains earlier that evening. 2nd Lt Brewer did the cooking for the bivouac and the cadets did the cleanup. The cadets and seniors enjoyed the movie Top Gun: Maverick.

On Saturday, many cadets got checked off on several GTM3 tasks as they rotated through the training stations that had been set up. SM Eddie Stamper taught a very informative class on Emergency Preparedness. The cadets also participated in several team building exercises and ended up getting to play in the San Marcos River for an hour as the bivouac ended.
